Today’s Reading John 7:24
Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment.”
———————–
You see a grouchy man and think he should be sad or that things are not going well for him. You are wrong! Perhaps this man is not grouchy, after all. He may have, or had, a happy heart full of goodness. Maybe he is cheerful and outgoing in front of his acquaintances.
You see a woman with a cheerful face and hear her laughter and think that she’s a happy person. You are wrong! The smiling woman might be hiding a bitter and ironic spirit, a vindictive and cruel heart.
We cannot judge people by appearances, by their haircuts, or the clothes they wear. Jesus Christ left us an order: “Do not judge according to appearance, but judge righteous judgment.” I know it’s very hard to set aside our preconceptions to appreciate people as they really are. I know it’s difficult to highlight the qualities and the kindness of someone.
The easiest thing for us is to see the flaws and criticize. We will obey Christ, by eliminating discrimination, prejudice, bias and bitter criticism. Let’s let love dominate our lives and reach those around us.

I love this! It’s very true. It’s hard to live in a world where there’s so much judgment going around. It’s wonderful to hear how Jesus wants us to be.

Awesome reminder! I was at this point for years, but have slowly fallen back or slipped at times. When you don’t judge people, not only are you pleasing God, but you make your own life sooooooo much easier. You don’t take situations personally and are able to keep moving along with your day without negative thoughts about that person or yourself. Thank you Idle!
