OVERCOMING COMPETITION AND AMBITION
Today’s Reading: Romans 13:8; Proverbs 1:19; Hebrews 13:5 Version NIV

https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Romans+13%3A8%3B+Proverbs+1%3A19%3B+Hebrews+13%3A5&version=NIV

In general, financial crises help and tend to unite spouses. Someone said: “If you do not know what we will eat tomorrow, maybe my wife will not worry so much with my urges.”

Small disputes and issues without much importance lose value in an acute crisis. However, if the financial crisis becomes a routine, especially for lack of control of expenses of one or both spouses, it will eventually lead to misunderstandings, aggression and even divorce.

In the struggle for higher wages and fully stocked pantries, it is necessary to overcome the competition and ambition. We must be aware of the materialistic and consumeristic society around us. The interest of propaganda is to create in us a strong conviction that we need that 75-inch TV. A common TV would be enough, or perhaps we would be happier without TV. However, because of the propaganda, we need an extra-large TV. Our neighbors already have one, and we think we are lagging behind. We make a loan with payments for twenty-four months leaving aside what God said: “Owe no one anything except to love one another; for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law.”

Besides, the apostle Paul presents a list of the sinful acts of the flesh, including selfish ambition, immorality, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, vengeance, wrath, strife, sedition, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness and orgies.

So are the paths of ambitious people: Their own ambition takes life away!

God tells us: Seek to live in peace, take care of business and work with your own hands, as you have been ordered. “Live without coveting money. Rather, settle for what you now have, because God has said: ‘I will never leave you, nor forsake you.’”

Jesus is the Way - a
Today’s Reading:  John 14:6 Version CEV
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John+14%3A6&version=CEV

Jesus is the door of salvation, the door that opens to the re-encounter of the human being with the eternal God. But how can anyone, confused, tired and destroyed from within, find that door? Jesus is the way by which men, women and children find direction for their steps.

If Jesus is the door where we come in and out and find food for our souls, we will understand that life is freedom, security and livelihood. Likewise, if Jesus is the way, He did not merely lead us to the door, but also shows us the way we have to go, the course, the direction, the goals we have in life. It is not an inner struggle of our conscience, whether we are, or not, pleasing to God; a constant concern of being in the wrong path. If we use the path or the way that Jesus represents, we will be able to admire the flowers at the roadside.

The question is only one: Are we? If we are on the way, the direction has been defined already; we know within ourselves what lies ahead.

Let us say with gratitude: “How unhappy would it be to live aimlessly, Lord! You are the door that opens to the way, the path that extends before us that guide our steps. Amen!”

Compassion of Jesus
Today’s Reading: Matthew 28:20 Version CEV
https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+28%3A20&version=CEV

When suffering knocks at our door, enthusiasm and joy of living go out the window. This is how thousands of people live. But this does not have to happen to those who know Jesus through an experience of personal salvation.

With Jesus, suffering faces hope and certainty. Without Jesus and without hope life is nothing more than fatigue and afflictions; and any small problem becomes a mountain of difficulties. Daily, Jesus places himself at our side. He knows our steps and guides us to the safe path. Jesus clears up our ideas and leads us with a firm hand.

If any one of our children screams for help, we leave everything and run to his rescue. It is no different with Jesus, who gave his life for us. His presence at our side is guaranteed. He said: “And lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.”

Life can be much more than a sea of tears. Jesus is our source of joy and peace.

One Day Left New Year

“Step By Step”

He does not lead me year by year
Nor even day by day,
But step by step my path unfolds;
My Lord directs my way.

Tomorrow’s plans I do not know,
I only know this minute;
But He will say, “This is the way,
By faith now walk in it.”

And I am glad that it is so,
Today’s enough to bear;
And when tomorrow comes, His grace
Shall far exceed it’s care.

What need to worry then, or fret?
The God who gave His Son
Holds all my moments in His hand
And gives them, one by one.
